Help Yourself

A traveling preacher finds himself in a tremendous rainstorm.

Within a few hours the hotel he is staying in becomes flooded. As the water rises, the preacher climbs to the roof and starts praying.

"Lord, save me so I can continue on my mission of preaching your teachings."

Just then, a coast guard rescue party floats by in a rowboat. "Let's go mister. Into the boat."

"I'll stay here," says the preacher, "The Lord will save me."

An hour later a second boat reaches the scene and the water is close to the roof of the hotel. "Sir, you better get in. the water is still rising."

"No thanks. The Lord will be my salvation."

Toward evening, the hotel is almost completely under water and the preacher is clinging to the satellite dish on the roof. A helicopter is spotted and on a loudspeaker is heard "'Hello Sir, grab on to the line and we will pull you up. This is your last chance!"

"I'm all right," says the preacher, as he looks heavenward. "I know the Lord will provide sanctuary."

As the helicopter departs, the satellite dish is hit by lightning and the preacher is killed. When he arrived at the Pearly Gates he was furious.

"What happened," he shouts. "I thought the Lord would provide!"

Moments later a thunderous voice is heard. "Give me a break pal. I sent you 2 boats and a chopper!"

If "A , B , C , D , E , F , G , H , I , J , K , L , M , N , O , P , Q , R , S , T , U , V , W , X , Y , Z" is equal to "1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26" respectively, then...

Hard Work
H+A+R+D+W+O+R+K
8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11 = 98%
( Hard work is only 98%? I can't believe it! )

Knowledge
K+N+O+W+L+E+D+G+E
11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5 = 96%
( Knowledge is also not 100%? Hmm.. Then what is 100%? )

Love
L+O+V+E
12+15+22+5 = 54%
( Isn't Love all that matters? I guess it is still not enough. )

Luck

12+21+3+11 = 47%
( Don't most of us think that Luck is the most important? )

Then what makes 100%?

Is it Money? ... Nope!
M+O+N+E+Y

Leadership? ... Wrong again!

Every problem has a solution, only if we perhaps change our attitude.
To go to the top or to reach that 100%, what we really need to do... is just a bit more...

( It is the right kind of attitude that I am refering to, not the bad kind. )

It is our ATTITUDE towards life and work that makes our life 100%!

The Weight of a Snowflake

Not long ago in a place not too far away, a field mouse asked a wise old owl what is the weight of a snowflake. "Why nothing more than nothing," answered the owl.

The mouse went on to tell the owl about the time he was resting underneath a branch of a fir tree, counting each snowflake that lands on the branch. He counted to exactly 3 471 952 when he heard a 'crack' sound and the branch broke. The branch had suddenly snapped, and the snow accumulated on it fell right on top of the mouse, burying it in a pile of snow. "Hmm... Such was the weight of NOTHING," said the mouse.

So the next time you think your contributions, your acts of charity, your works for justice, your gifts of love and your talents are nothing, or that they are small in comparison to those of others, remember that when one is added to another, and then to another and so forth, GREAT THINGS CAN HAPPEN FROM NOTHING!! In the same way, what seems to be ordinary can be transformed into something extraordinary with just a little extra nothing. The same effect can be said about the seemingly little hurt that we caused to others too.

Life's Little Struggle

"One day, a student found a cocoon in the garden and brought it to his Biology class to show his teacher. The teacher put the cocoon into an unused aquarium in the Biology Lab. She also placed a small lamp in the aquarium to keep it warm.

A week later, a small opening began to appear on the underside of the cocoon. The students watched as it began to shake. Suddenly, tiny antennae emerged, followed by the head and tiny front feet. The students were all excited and deeply fascinated by what they saw. They would run back to the Biology Lab in between classes to check on the progress of the cocoon. By lunchtime, it had struggled to free its listless wings. The colours on the wings revealed that it was a Monarch Butterfly. It wriggled, shook and struggled, but it seemed to be stuck. Try as it might, the butterfly could not seem to force its body through the small opening in the cocoon.

Finally, one helpful and kind-hearted student could not bear to see the little butterfly in this predicament and decided to help it out of its difficulty. He took a pair of scissors and made the opening on the cocoon bigger. As soon as he did that, out plopped an insect-like thing. The top half looked like a butterfly with droopy wings and the bottom half was large and swollen. The 'butter-pillar' or 'cater-fly' never flew with its strunted wings. It just crawled around the bottom of the aquarium, dragging its wings and swollen body with it. Shortly after, it died.

The Biology teacher explained that the butterfly's struggle to get through the tiny opening was necessary in order to force the fluid from the swollen body into the wings. Without the struggle, the wings never developed and the butterfly could not fly. Eventually, the butterfly will die without fulfilling its destiny -- to fly high and bring beauty to the world."

Disclaimer: I don't know how true this is. You might want to check with your Biology teacher. Also, I'm not asking you all to be selfish and stop offering a helping hand to those in need. However, the next time before you do that, please think about this "seed".

"An old man went into a restaurant one day for his meal. He sat at an empty table and waited for someone to take his order.

After half an hour, still nobody came. He was getting impatient and decided to approach a waitress walking past his table. He asked, 'Can I make my order?' The waitress looked at him in a puzzled manner. She replied, 'But, Sir, we serve buffet here. You will have to go to the tables in the centre of the restaurant to get your food. You can take any food that is on the serving tables.' 'When you have finished your meal, the bill will be brought to you,' added the waitress. After which, she walked away and carried on her business.

Having realised his folly, the old man stood up and walked towards the serving tables in the middle of the restaurant.

Lesson: Life is like a buffet. You can have anything you want as long as you are willing to pay the price, even success. But you will not get anything if you sit around and wait to be served. You'll have to get up and go get it yourself!"

Will You Give Me A Break?

"There once was an old man who lived a good and pious life, but in his waning years felt that he had nothing to show for it. Finally, he decided to ask something from God. He fell to his knees and prayed, "God, please hear me. I've been a good man all my life. I've never asked anything from you before, and I'm grateful for all that you have given me. But, please grant me just one request: let me win the lottery."

Weeks passed and nothing happened, so he prayed to win the lottery again. Still nothing happened. After months of fruitless praying, he finally cried out to God: "God, will you give me a break? All I'm asking for is to win the lottery!"

Suddenly, a voice thundered from the sky, "Will you give me a break? At least buy a ticket!""
