Help Yourself
A traveling preacher finds himself in a tremendous rainstorm.
Within a few hours the hotel he is staying in becomes flooded. As the water rises, the preacher climbs to the roof and starts praying.
"Lord, save me so I can continue on my mission of preaching your teachings."
Just then, a coast guard rescue party floats by in a rowboat. "Let's go mister. Into the boat."
"I'll stay here," says the preacher, "The Lord will save me."
An hour later a second boat reaches the scene and the water is close to the roof of the hotel. "Sir, you better get in. the water is still rising."
"No thanks. The Lord will be my salvation."
Toward evening, the hotel is almost completely under water and the preacher is clinging to the satellite dish on the roof. A helicopter is spotted and on a loudspeaker is heard "'Hello Sir, grab on to the line and we will pull you up. This is your last chance!"
"I'm all right," says the preacher, as he looks heavenward. "I know the Lord will provide sanctuary."
As the helicopter departs, the satellite dish is hit by lightning and the preacher is killed. When he arrived at the Pearly Gates he was furious.
"What happened," he shouts. "I thought the Lord would provide!"
Moments later a thunderous voice is heard. "Give me a break pal. I sent you 2 boats and a chopper!"

- It teaches us on how devastating a genocide can be as many lives were sacrificed.
Q2. How does it relate to defence?
- It teaches our country (Singapore) to defend ourselves and to prevent such incidents.
Q3. What are the (possible) consequences of such an incident?
- It will cause many lands to be destroyed and many innocent people will be killed.
Q4. What can you do on your part to prevent it from happening to us?
- We can celebrate Total Defence Day seriously? :D
Q5. What are 3 lessons that you've learnt from the presensation?
- I learnt that there are still many poor people suffering out there, we should not complain that life sucks because whats there to compare if we compare with them? And we will know that the world outside is dangerous and not so simple as we thought.

The Serenity Prayer
I thought that I should also do likewise and share with you guys my reflection. However, I would only share what I have learnt over these past few weeks, as your form teacher.
When I ponder over this question, the very first thing that comes to my mind is "The Serenity Prayer". Some of you may be familiar with it. I think it reflects exactly how I feel then and now, and the lesson that you guys have taught me.

Ties that bind.
Note: This music video has some religious (Christianity) contents.
But it's only in the 2nd line of this song.
What I'm trying to show to you guys is the message of the song.
American Dream by Casting Crowns
All work no play may have made Jack a dull boy
But all work no God has left Jack with a lost soul
But he's moving on full steam
He's chasing the American dream
And he's gonna give his family finer things
"Not this time son I've no time to waste
Maybe tomorrow we'll have time to play"
And then he slips into his new BMW
And drives farther and farther and farther away
Cause he works all day and tries to sleep at night
He says things will get better;
Better in time
[Chorus]
So he works and he builds with his own two hands
And he pours all he has in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are comin' crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands
Well his American Dream is beginning to seem
More and more like a nightmare
With every passing day
"Daddy, can you come to my game?"
"Oh Baby, please don't work late."
Another wasted weekend
And they are slipping away
'Cause he works all day and lies awake at night
He tells them things are getting better
Just take a little more time
Chorus
So he works and he builds with his own two hands
And he pours all he has in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are comin' crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands
He used to say, "Whoever dies with the most toys wins"
But if he loses his soul, what has he gained in the end
I'll take a shack on the rock
Over a castle in the sand
Now he works all day and cries alone at night
It's not getting any better
Looks like he's running out of time
Chorus
'Cause he worked and he built with his own two hands
And he poured all he had in a castle made with sand
But the wind and the rain are coming crashing in
Time will tell just how long his kingdom stands
His kingdom stands
All they really wanted was you
All they really wanted was you
All they really wanted was you
The man in the story is working hard to achieve his dream, but in the process he drifts further and further from the things he should have always kept close to his heart.
Sometimes in life, we try so hard to achieve something that we lose ourselves in the process.
Never let this happen.
Treasure those around you, treasure everything that you have, for the present is a gift.
Material things do not last. Losing your family to your dreams is just not worth it.
When the wind and the rain come crashing in, the castle that you have spent so much time on sculpting into shape with sand will just collapse.
But no matter how violent the storm is, family ties will never yield.
They shall never give way to the storm; but never let them go yourself.
Please comment on the video and on what I have said.
I hope my words got you thinking.
Etch this lesson in your minds.
Dont make the same mistake like the man did in the video.
Last of all, treasure those around you.

What Makes Life 100%?
Hard Work
H+A+R+D+W+O+R+K
8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11 = 98%
( Hard work is only 98%? I can't believe it! )
Knowledge
K+N+O+W+L+E+D+G+E
11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5 = 96%
( Knowledge is also not 100%? Hmm.. Then what is 100%? )
Love
L+O+V+E
12+15+22+5 = 54%
( Isn't Love all that matters? I guess it is still not enough. )
Luck
L+U+C+K
12+21+3+11 = 47%
( Don't most of us think that Luck is the most important? )
Then what makes 100%?
Is it Money? ... Nope!
M+O+N+E+Y
13+15+14+5+25 = 72%
Leadership? ... Wrong again!
L+E+A+D+E+R+S+H+I+P
12+5+1+4+5+18+19+9+16 = 89%
Every problem has a solution, only if we perhaps change our attitude.
To go to the top or to reach that 100%, what we really need to do... is just a bit more...
ATTITUDE
A+T+T+I+T+U+D+E
1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5 = 100%
( It is the right kind of attitude that I am refering to, not the bad kind. )
It is our ATTITUDE towards life and work that makes our life 100%!
Attitude is everything.
Change your attitude,
And you change your life!
Is your life 100%? Do you have right ATTITUDE towards your life?

The Weight of a Snowflake
Not long ago in a place not too far away, a field mouse asked a wise old owl what is the weight of a snowflake. "Why nothing more than nothing," answered the owl.
The mouse went on to tell the owl about the time he was resting underneath a branch of a fir tree, counting each snowflake that lands on the branch. He counted to exactly 3 471 952 when he heard a 'crack' sound and the branch broke. The branch had suddenly snapped, and the snow accumulated on it fell right on top of the mouse, burying it in a pile of snow. "Hmm... Such was the weight of NOTHING," said the mouse.
So the next time you think your contributions, your acts of charity, your works for justice, your gifts of love and your talents are nothing, or that they are small in comparison to those of others, remember that when one is added to another, and then to another and so forth, GREAT THINGS CAN HAPPEN FROM NOTHING!! In the same way, what seems to be ordinary can be transformed into something extraordinary with just a little extra nothing. The same effect can be said about the seemingly little hurt that we caused to others too.
